Dehradun Trip
Traveling to Dehradun (Garwal Glory)
Devbhoomi Uttarakhand is a very beautiful hill state of our country India. It is called Devbhoomi because every part of this state is inhabited by gods. The famous Char Dham pilgrimage site is in this state, so the holy Ganges and Yamuna rivers also originate from here.
This state has major religious places of the country as well as world famous tourist places. This beautiful state is divided into two parts on the basis of division, first Garhwal and second Kumaon. There are seven districts in Garhwal division and six districts in Kumaon division.
I have traveled to many places in the second part of Uttarakhand “Kumaon” and have also given a pictorial description of the journey here on my blog. Now it comes to Garhwal part and this time we also made our itinerary to visit many places of Garhwal with family. Next this series is inspired by my journey to Garhwal and you people will get to know a lot about this journey.
Let’s take you people on a journey to Dehradun today –
First Day of Yatra (17th August) →
My family journey starts from Agra in Uttar Pradesh because I am a native of Agra. In this trip to Garhwal, my younger brother Anuj was also going along with me along with his family, so first of all we had to go from Agra to Gurgaon (Gurugram is now there, when we went it was Gurgaon only), younger brother based in Haryana. I had to reach home, from where I had to start my journey with my family early in the morning the next day in a hired taxi called “Innova”. In Agra, on Tuesday afternoon at 3 pm, we reached the interstate bus graduate (ISBT, Agra) of Agra by our local means of auto.
The Haryana Roadways bus to Gurgaon (Gurugram) arrived a little late at the bus stand, so we were able to leave from Agra around 4 pm. From Agra via Mathura, Palwal, Sohna villages, reached Gurgaon (Gurugram) bus stand at 9 pm. By the way, as soon as we entered Gurgaon, a disease of a big city was seen all around, that is, getting jam on the way, the most jam was found at Honda Chowk, due to this we were more late. Anyway, Anuj had come to pick up Anuj at the Gurgaon bus stand, so he reached home in his car.
The dinner was packed from the market itself while coming home, so we had dinner together and discussed the taxi for the next day and where to go from Dehradun. The next day we had to leave early in the morning, so now we had to stop talking and go to sleep. Thus ended the first day of our journey from Agra to Gurugram, Haryana.
Day 2 of the Yatra (August 18) →
On the second day after getting up early in the morning, first of all I called the haridwar taxi service‘s driver and asked about his arrival, “how long are you coming?” then he gave us half an hour’s time to come. Meanwhile, we all got ready and packed all our stuff and snacks.
The car driver also came with his Innova at the given time. Soon we arranged all our things in the car, tied the big luggage on the roof and kept the small bags inside the car. At about quarter to six we set out on our journey. In the morning the streets of the city were lying empty and the shops were also closed.
The advantage of leaving early in the morning is that there is no jam. Our car was moving fast on the road and the sun god of dawn was also now seen peeking from behind a tall building. Departing from Delhi airport, after crossing Delhi comfortably, I came to the Ghaziabad area. In this journey of ours, the distance from Gurugram to Dehradun via Ghaziabad, Meerut Bypass, Khatauli Bypass, Muzaffarnagar Bypass and Saharanpur Bypass is about 280 km, which took about five to six hours.
After leaving Ghaziabad, around 8:30 in the morning, we stopped for breakfast at a famous eatery named “Jhilmil Food Court” located on Khatauli bypass on Dehradun road. Mild hunger was eradicated. Its breakfast and food were very tasty.
This Jhilmil food court was also well decorated, a small garden, beautiful flowering trees and plants, a small lawn of grass etc. in which our children Got engrossed in getting his photographs clicked. After having breakfast and water, he continued his journey continuously, at one place near Iqbalpur, the railway road gate was closed, from where it was possible to leave only after a goods train had passed after a long time. While walking near the line, we had already taken a photo of the mall vehicle passing through the gate.
After leaving the bypass of Saharanpur, some mild hilly and wild areas started and we entered the border of Uttarakhand from Uttar Pradesh, this wild area is a part of “Raja Ji National Park”. It is famous for its wild elephants. There was a lot of greenery spread on both sides of the road and due to the sky being full of clouds, there was every possibility of rain.
After crossing this area of the National Park, we entered Dehradun city around 12 o’clock and then it started raining heavily. Our luggage on the carrier on top of the car also got wet, due to heavy rain we stopped at one place. When the rain stopped after some time, the search for a budget hotel started, although we had thought of booking a room online, but could not do so for some reason. Hotels in many places in Dehradun city
Sorry, some places were completely full, some places were very expensive and out of budget. Almost after taking a round of Dehradun city, we got two rooms in a hotel near Prince Chowk at our rate, the name of that hotel is “Hotel Doon Regency” Hotel Doon Regency, Near Prince Chowk, Dehradun.
We liked this hotel and its rooms, the hotel had a restaurant downstairs and some local shops and the hotel rooms were built upstairs. There is also a car parking facility in the hotel itself, so I got the car installed inside and told my driver that now you have food and we will also have food, then after that we will go on visit –
Guchchu Pani
“Guchchu Pani (Robber’s Cave)” , which is a famous place in Dehradun. It was three o’clock in the afternoon and all the people were feeling hungry. After keeping their belongings in the room, they went out to find a restaurant to eat because the hotel restaurant was closed at that time.
A restaurant was found near the hotel, at that time hot food was also being prepared here, so lunch was eaten here, we found the food here good and tasty. After having lunch, we got ready and went to our rooms.
At four o’clock in the evening, we got ready and came down to walk, but at that time the driver of our car was not in the car, nor was his phone ringing. After waiting for a long time, when he came, he said that he had gone across the intersection for some work and said that “one of our drivers will come from Haridwar to take you further at night and I will give this vehicle to his care.” Will return to Delhi in his car”. We said, “Okay”, for the time being let us take the people to “Guchchu Pani Gufa”.
The distance of this place from where we were staying was only ten kilometers, so it did not take much time. As soon as all the people sat in the car, we walked towards our destination and after seeing the markets of Dehradun and outside views, after about twenty minutes we reached “Gucchu Paani”, before entering the parking the parking fee was paid.
And started looking for a place to park the car, then it started raining heavily with thunder, we stopped where we were. It was raining so heavily that we could not even get out of the car. It rained heavily for about half an hour and we sat like prisoners in the car, after the rain stopped, we went to the ticket window and inquired about the tickets for Robber’s Cave (Guchchu Pani) and came to know that due to the heavy rain, the cave was closed.
Water has come above the waist and some people are trapped inside, so now tickets are not being given to go inside. Oho – “Our coming here was useless”, what could we do now, so it was decided to come again the next day.
Due to the rains, the small river flowing next to the parking lot, which was coming out from the spring inside the cave, had a lot of water at that time, the color of the water was muddy. By the way, there was also a swimming pool near this place for the tourists who allow them to bathe and swim on a fixed fee. Well, we have now returned to the hotel because it was still drizzling now and then, so we could not go to any other place.
Paltan Bazar
After coming back to the hotel, we decided to go to Paltan Bazar in Dehradun as we had heard from someone that there is a chaat street here which is famous for its chaat.
Took the help of Google Maps and walked on foot towards Paltan Bazar. Paltan Bazar was shown only one km away on Google Maps. Crossing Prince Chowk and passing through the by-lanes of Dehradun, we reached Paltan Bazar within a short time, but here we saw only vegetable markets and the market was also of some other name.
Well, after asking someone about Paltan Bazar’s Chaat Gali, we went towards the next market, but after searching a lot, we could not find Chaat Gali, it may have been abolished due to the widening of the road.
Well, while walking there, I saw a small shop selling burgers made from potato tikki at a crossroads, that problem was very crowded. So we stopped there and tasted the delicious burgers. When I came to Dehradun many years ago, I had probably eaten such burgers here, now a lot has changed here.
Paltan Bazar is a very big market of Dehradun which is full of shops catering to all kinds of local needs. After dealing with it, we came back to our hotel.
Due to rain the weather had become good, there was moisture in the air and it was very nice to walk here because of an unknown place, unknown city and some newness was there for us.
From everyday life Now it was night, now everyone was feeling hungry and the children were also tired, so around 9:30 we had dinner in a nearby restaurant.
After having dinner, we returned to our hotel room and what to do in Dehradun the next day? Fell asleep after planning it.
Day 3 of the Yatra (August 19) →
And Finally the next day we went to Guchchu Paani and there was a cave inside where we crossed that cave and a lot of water was coming from there. There are small restaurants who provide maggie and coffee and you can sit in the water and enjoy your food in summer.
There were different kinds of swings for childrens and bridges for photography. We enjoyed a lot of this journey. After doing lunch at Robber’s Cave at 1pm.
We started our back home journey.
