La Sagrada Familia Tour: Is It Worth It?
The most famous landmark in Barcelona is surely La Sagrada Familia, but is it worth the money and the hassle? Tourists often flock there to get a glimpse of this phantasmagorical cathedral. The long lines, crowded spaces, and the overwhelming city can make it difficult to see the masterpiece up close. The Sagrada Familia is a truly difficult building to see. It is made of many different materials, including brick, cast iron, and concrete, which have been put together in complicated construction. A large number of iron bars also cover the building.
The plan to build this cathedral was started by Antoni Gaudi more than 150 years ago. Gaudi was a great surrealist artist who loved to create incredible structures with vibrant colours and strange shapes. He dreamed of building a perfect space so that he could come to church and be closer to God. His ideas were revolutionary and bizarre, but after many years of hard work, Gaudi saw his dream become a reality.
The structure is made to be a symbol of the divine holy family, which includes Mary, Joseph, and Jesus. The church comprises 16 naves (long rectangular rooms) with chapels and altars. There are also lots of living quarters for priests and nuns. Each nave represents Jesus and his apostles and other important people from the Bible. There are also two towers with bells in them.
The church’s exterior is made of reddish brick and has an elaborately designed façade. The inside is more colourful. The walls are covered by colored glass windows that depict scenes from the New Testament and quatrefoil designs (a type of pattern with four parts). Inside the church, there is an amazing example of Gaudi’s imagination. It is a large statue of Jesus called “Christ of the Passions.” It looks like a real human made it, and four columns support it.
The church was not completed during Gaudi’s lifetime. After he died, work on the structure stopped for many years. But now, many workers are in the middle of finishing up this masterpiece. The vision of Gaudi is still very much alive, and visitors are impressed by the place. Many people visit it every year and make pilgrimages to see the famous church.
Some people think that La Sagrada Familia is not worth the hassle and money, but others believe that it is worth seeing. La Sagrada Familia is one of the most important religious buildings in Barcelona, so most tourists want to see it. This work of art is not just a beautiful building but a symbol of Catalonian identity.
Like most things in Barcelona, there’s a catch: It’s a long walk from the city’s centre. It is much harder to find transportation to this attraction than it is for other famous landmarks like the Picasso Museum or Olympic Stadium. And, if you don’t book your Sagrada Familia Tour ahead of time, it cannot be easy to visit because there are often long lines and very crowded areas within the cathedral itself. So, whether you want to see this impressive building and take some beautiful photographs, or you want to see the famous Picasso Museum or Olympic Stadium, the Sagrada Familia may not be for you.
I recommend that if you’ve got limited time in Barcelona and enough money to spare, skip it. If you don’t have more than a day in Barcelona though and want to see the most famous landmark in the city, then…oh well…you‘ll probably love it.
